To say we had fun this past weekend up in Powell River would be an understatement! Fantastic Fest, Paddy. Thank you and CAMRA Powell River for your wonderful hospitality.
CAMRA BC was also there on some official business. This is the first year for the CAMRA BC Awards and each branch sponsored an award.
Innovation Award sponsored by the South Fraser branch went to James Walton of Storm Brewing.
Community Award sponsored by the Powell River branch and went to Townsite Brewing. It was accepted on behalf of Townsite by Chloe Bryana Smith.
Volunteer of the Year award was sponsored by the Vancouver Branch and went to the tireless Monica Frost (she’s the one in the middle)
Lifetime Achievement was sponsored by the Victoria branch and went John and Carol Rowling. They were unable to attend the event and will receive their plaque in a separate ceremony on October 14 at the “Pints, Patriotism and Stolen Votes” presentation.
The Volunteer of the Year award is also a memorial plaque so we took a moment at that time to remember a few CAMRA members who are no longer with us. Suzanne Shaw, Pia Lohin, Dan Small and James Cline are commemorated in individual plates on the obverse of the award.
The Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by the Victoria branch recognizes the years of service by John and Carol Rowling to CAMRA BC and the craft beer consumers of this province. They were unable to attend the event and will receive their plaque in a separate ceremony on October 14 at the “Pints, Patriotism and Stolen Votes” presentation.
The larger-than-life energizer bunny that is Paddy Treavor promises next year’s will be in a larger venue with more brewers and even more fun. Make a note now to plan a trip to the top of the sunshine coast in October, 2015. You can thank me later.
The date for next year’s award presentation has not been set but your branch will have the information in time to make your nominations.
